To get the most out of your cupping session, please follow these important instructions before and after the treatment. These practices help enhance the effectiveness of the therapy and speed up the healing process.
Tips for the patient before attending a cupping session: Before the session, the patient is advised to follow these general instructions, also common in acupuncture and other body-interactive therapies:
Avoid eating for at least one hour before the session, and refrain from physical exercise or taking a hot bath.
Prepare a list of any medications taken during the past week.
Bring available medical test results or imaging, and inform the practitioner of any chronic or contagious diseases.
Avoid drinking water or medicinal fluids the day before the session, as this helps rebalance body fluids, restore muscle activity, and maintain skin health.
For the patient:
It is recommended to rest in the clinic for no less than 15 minutes after the session.
Avoid driving immediately after the cupping session.
Do not remove the medical bandages for 48 hours.
Drink plenty of water and natural fluids. Continue with a healthy diet and reduce intake of protein, fat, and salt to support the body's recovery.
The patient will be informed of the date of the next session, if scheduled.
The number of sessions depends on your health condition and treatment goals. For chronic conditions, one session every 3 to 4 weeks is recommended. For general wellness, one session every 3 months is ideal. Consult your therapist for a personalized schedule.
Cupping is generally not painful. Some may feel mild pressure or slight discomfort during the session, but it is usually well-tolerated and the sensation fades quickly.
Minor side effects like redness or light bruising may occur and typically fade within a few days. These are normal and not cause for concern when the procedure is done properly under supervision.
Some patients feel immediate improvement, while others may notice benefits within 1 to 3 weeks. Chronic conditions may require multiple sessions for optimal results.
The above guidelines are general and may vary based on your individual health condition. Always consult your therapist for personalized advice.
